Gina Childress, the spouse of SSG Ashley Childress, Army National Guard, has nominated you to receive the Patriot Award. This is her way of thanking you, and Bright Beginnings, for supporting her, and other military families as they cope with deployments and separation from their military family members.

In her nomination, Gina expressed the following:

“Amy has been extremely supportive of our military family. In the short time our family has been attending Bright Beginnings, our children feel comfortable, loved and supported. Bright Beginnings is a safe place for my children to be themselves, and also to talk about the challenges of being a military child. Being a military family, we do not have any other family in this area. Bright Beginnings has become our family, and support system. I don’t know what we would do without Amy, and the staff, at Bright Beginnings, in our lives.

This past August, my husband was sent TDY for about a month with only a few days notice. Since we didn’t have a lot of time to prepare our children, that their dad would be working elsewhere for a month, I met with Amy and let her know what was going on. I asked her to please make the staff aware of these unexpected circumstances, and if my children’s behavior seemed off, this is what our family was facing. Amy immediately stepped in and let my children’s teachers know what was going on so that they could better support them. Amy also organized a voluntary meal train for the entire month my husband was away. At least three times per week, a teacher prepared my family dinner, and had it ready for me to take home when I arrived to pick up my children, after working all day. This was entirely voluntary, but so many teachers participated, following her lead. Amy is such a strong role model to her staff.

There are several other military families that attend Bright Beginnings as well. Amy, and the staff, have gone above and beyond making sure all of our military children are safe, loved and well cared for. In turn, they take care of us as parents as well. Amy and Bright Beginnings have made so many incredible gestures in supporting military families.”

I look forward to the opportunity to meet you, and to present you with the Patriot Award.
